A modular plexiglass fascia system for Electropeyk's 502-MTV video door phone, giving one base unit fifteen selectable surface variants without touching the underlying hardware.
The 502 MTV was Electropeyk's entry-level video door phone, launched in 2013. As the market expanded and competition increased, the company needed to extend its product range without redesigning the underlying hardware. The existing plexiglass fascia was perceived as outdated and no longer competitive at the point of sale.
The product required a visual refresh that could differentiate it in a crowded market without altering the hardware. The challenge was to create multiple distinct surface variants from a single base unit, offering customers meaningful choice while keeping manufacturing complexity low. A black version of the unit was already available as an option, and this plexiglass system was developed to extend that approach across a wider range of colors and styles.
Five plexiglass face designs were developed across three base body colors, white, black, and gray. Each variant explores a different combination of color, surface treatment, and graphic language, while maintaining a consistent button layout and interface logic. The designs range from minimal monochromatic surfaces to two-tone compositions with accent panels, addressing different price levels and aesthetic preferences within a single product family.
5 designs × 3 RAL colors, 15 selectable variants.
Each design keeps the same button positions and circular navigation ring, but reworks the surface graphics around it, from a simple radial dial, to a hexagonal button cluster, to a rounded shield panel that frames the screen and branding.
A black version of the unit was already available as an option before this system, shown here installed alongside the white variant to compare how each reads on the wall.
All fourteen variants were developed at the prototype stage and tested on production 502 MTV units at the Electropeyk facility. The prototypes confirmed fit, surface build quality, and visual consistency across body color options.
The Plexiglass Variants system was designed independently as part of an R&D internship at Electropeyk, covering the fascia designs, the color and material system, and the transition from concept to tested prototype.
Packaging for the 592-MTV was also designed as part of the same product launch.
