01, Project Overview

Packaging for a large, heavy product

This project focused on developing the packaging system for the UTAB Sorena swing gate opener. The work included the packaging graphics, box structure, and the design of the internal protective foam. The gate opener itself was also designed during this project, although the product design files are not currently included in this portfolio.

The packaging system was produced as a prototype for pilot production, to evaluate packaging performance and transportation safety before full-scale manufacturing.

02, Design Exploration & Brand Strategy

From UTAB black and yellow to Electropeyk blue

The initial concept followed UTAB's original brand identity, with the Sorena gate opener's silver form set against a dark, industrial ground. Three material and colour directions were explored: a black box with a red accent panel, a black-and-kraft combination, and an all-kraft direction with a bold graphic mark.

After discussions with the marketing team, the packaging direction shifted to highlight UTAB's connection to Electropeyk. The design was updated to combine Electropeyk's blue with UTAB's yellow identity color. The final packaging uses Electropeyk blue as the main color while keeping UTAB's yellow accents, highlighting the connection between the two brands while keeping the design clean and easy to recognize.

03, Protective Structure Design

Foam built around the arm

In addition to the packaging graphics, the internal protective foam was designed to secure the gate opener components during transportation. The foam layout organizes the main arms and accessory parts while preventing movement and possible damage inside the box.

Role & Authorship

Graphics, structure, and protection, together

The Swing Gate Opener packaging was designed independently, covering the packaging graphics, the brand-strategy shift from UTAB colors to a shared Electropeyk identity, the box structure, and the internal protective foam.
